Clearning Wax off Outside of Warmer

Does it really make a difference if you have a completely clean Scentsy warmer when melting wax?

You bet your Aunt Bessy it does!

Some wax scents have heavy oil molecules, like cinnamon oil.  When you warm those scents your dish can sometimes get a brown film on it.  That brown film consists of scented oil that has collected over time.

This can happen with any scent if you have warmed it too long without changing your wax.

I have had customers forget to change their wax for weeks, even months at a time.  And they leave their warmers on 24/7.  While it is safe to do that, always remember that Scentsy wax does not evaporate.  And you will develop this sticky film.

You should change your wax at least once per week or turn your warmers off if you don’t want to change that often.

How a Wax Warmer Works:

Electric wax warmers heat scented wax at a low temperature. They don’t actually burn the wax so the wax never melts, only the scent is released. Therefore, your wax warming dish will be left with unscented leftover wax! You need to use your nose to determine when there is no more scent. Once the wax melt has no more scent, there are simple methods to use return your electric wax warmer to itss original status as a clean Scentsy warmer ready for more wax.

How Many Scentsy Cubes Do You Use?

A Scentsy Bar comes with 8 cubes and all you need is one cube to scent your home or car.

Two Reasons To Clean Your Dish More Often:

  1. A clean Scentsy warmer just looks better.  You have a beautiful warmer – a showpiece – and don’t we all want our decor to have a pleasant appearance?
  2. It affects your scent throw and quality.  This little extra layer of sticky oil is absorbing some of the heat from your warmer – either the bulb or the warming plate.  Your new wax is not being warmed at the optimal temperature for maximum scent throw.  And the old oil can alter the scent of the new wax cubes you just placed in your dish.

How To Clean Wax off Wax Warmer

Do you have a dirty or stained Scentsy warmer? Have no fear, your answer to a clean Scentsy warmer is here! Your warmer and dish are not ruined.  Your dish just needs a little cleaning TLC. It’s not hard to clean up. Check out the quick video up top for a demonstration.

Method 1 (and my favorite way to clean a Scentsy warmer): Scentsy Counter Clean

My go-to for dish cleaning is Scentsy Counter Clean.  This cleaner is formulated for all sealed surfaces and your warmer dish is sealed.  Simply, spray enough Counter Clean into the dish to cover all of the brown oil film and let it sit for a bit.  (I like to go and clean the bathroom while the dish soaks).  When you return, wipe out the film with a cloth and shine your dish up.

I love this method because it literally makes your dish warmer spotless and looking brand new everytime.

You could also use other cleaning products or even white vinegar.  Add in a little elbow grease and your warmer dish is back to perfection.  Ready to warm that amazing, fragrant, Scentsy Bar.

Method 2: Cotton Ball

How to clean your Scentsy warmer with cotton balls? Easy. Place the cotton ball in the warmer when it’s on and wait a while as the cotton ball soaks up the wax melt. Then you can remove the cotton ball and wipe dish clean with a paper towel.

If you don’t have a cotton ball, heat the warmer up for 10 minutes or so, then turn it off. Wipe out the wax melt with a paper towel. This method is essentially the same as the cotton ball method, but it just requires a bit more work.

Method 3: Scrape it Clean (the cold method)

Take the warming dish which contains the used, scented wax and place it into the freezer or refrigerator. The wax will cool and contract, thus becoming smaller and easier to scrape clean. After 15 minutes, remove the dish from the freezer and easily pop the wax out with a butter knife or something alike.

2 things you should not do with a wax warmer

Now that you know the most professional methods for a clean Scentsy warmer, let’s talk about what you should do when cleaning or using the electric wax warmer. Let’s discuss 2 essential DON’TS:

  1. Don’t leave the warmer on without wax in the dish.
  2. Don’t soak the electric wax warmer in water.

Can I reuse wax melts?

Yes, you can reuse Scentsy wax melts and cubes.

If you decide to change out the wax for a new scent, you can keep the used wax for later use. This only makes sense to do if your wax melt still contains scent.

Get Creative!

Something fun and creative that some people do is save used wax melts that still have scent and combine them with other used wax melts to make a new scent all on their own.

Pro Tip:

If you’re new to the Scentsy product line, it might be beneficial to start with a small order (a bar or two) to test out the waters. Here are some current deals:
